School Safety Standards

Safety Standards

At Wood Creek Academy we implement strict safety standards and have local staff on hand at all times to support our student needs. We have achieved a remarkable safety record in our fourteen plus years of working with troubled teen boys. Safety takes precedence over every other consideration. When compared with other troubled teen programs, our standards are among the best in the nation.

First, every teenage boy remains in a group together with at least two trained staff at all times. The staff has done a careful screening of each teen’s mental health and behavior before allowing him to participate in the any wilderness experience. Staff members are in constant radio contact at all times.

Experienced, quick response search and rescue teams that include EMTs and Wilderness First Responders are always available to Wood Creek Academy. We have EMTs as well as a Registered Nurse on staff and a fire department just 10 minutes away.

Since Wood Creek Academy residents do a lot of hiking, we ensure that boys’ feet remain warm, dry and blister-free. Participants may need supplies such as special stockings and footwear, thermal underwear, raingear and warm gloves to keep them comfortable in winter weather. Hydration and nutrition are also emphasized Wood Creek Academy has a proud record of keeping each teen’s experience healthy, healing and fulfilling.

Medical Service

Wood Creek Academy provides medical, dental and optometry services for your son’s well being through our partners in Thompson Falls, Missoula and Kalispell.

When you send us your son’s medical record, we review his medical history so we can discuss it with the appropriate medical professional if needed. If medication is necessary, we will follow a strict path of medication management. If diagnosed with a substance abuse problem we will ensure that he closely follows the 12-step process associated with his addiction. We will take your insurance card to any medical care provider and coordinate with you so that insurance is processed as you request.
